Mended Hearts Rochester is a totally volunteer support group for people with heart disease and their families. Our unique function is to visit patients in Rochester General and Strong Memorial Hospitals who have undergone heart surgery or heart procedures. We bring them comfort, emotional support, and show them that there is life after a heart event. Our visitor volunteers do this after undergoing five hours of Mended Hearts visitor training classes. They also have to be reaccredited yearly. Our visits are always with doctor and hospital approval.
We also hold monthly meetings with guest speakers in all fields of cardiology, as well as other speakers who can enhance our complete health. Our meetings are always free and open to the public. In addition, we publish a quarterly newsletter. We not only have a chapter in Rochester, but also a satellite branch in Canandaigua.
We benefited previously from NYS Legistlative Grants. These have not been availble for the past several years, because of the State’s fiscal problems. We would like to invite you to contribute to our chapter to help us continue to reach out to heart disease patients and their families.
